Death
When playing in Ironman mode, upon death, you will go through resurrection. With Ironman disabled, you can simply quick load your previous save file.
When a player dies on Ironman, he goes into the underworld as a soul without a body.
From the underworld, players get an option to pick a new character with new talents. New character attributes are scaled with player level. There is over 60 unique characters in the pool.
On the new character selection screen, you can reroll (costing 3 God's Favors). This gives you a chance to find unique characters with special talents, some of which can't be obtained in any other way in the game.
Once you return to the Earth, you will get the option to change your mastery and you will get the side quest to retrieve the items from the old character.
If you exit the game and return, your loot should still be there. It is removed only once you find and open it.
Dying isn't necessarily a bad thing for you, but dying too many times may punish the world instead.
After respawning, you receive a Veles' Protection that allows you to ignore 90% of damage until you attack someone. This is intended to help you retrieve your items. While Veles' Protection is active, your character can loot items during combat. You can see it active by the icon in the bottom right corner or the particles around your character.
Additionally, until you exit the game, you receive a 25% bonus revenge critical chance against the enemy that killed you. This bonus stacks with each death.
Tips for surviving:
- There are items, skills, devotions, and talents that can prevent death—you just have to find them.
- Monsters spawn at night, making it much safer to sleep through the night and explore the world during the day.
- The best way to survive is to sprint and run away from enemies. Some will chase you longer, so lead them to the nearest village for safety.
- The second best way to survive is by getting stronger. Earning experience and increasing your level unlocks powerful skills, and even if you die, your new characters will be stronger.
- If you don’t like this mechanic, you can opt out of Ironman Mode in the game settings, allowing you to reload your latest save if you die.
- You can also lower the difficulty in the game settings if needed.
